Friday, October 21st is race day in Oakville and we are so excited to welcome you and your family and friends to the 11th annual Trek or Treat Night Trail Run – Creepy Mile! In order to make your Creepy Mile experience great, here are some important tips.
Have another question? Find answers in the FAQ section on our website.
Early Kit Pick Up
All Creepy Mile families/teams are eligible to do early kit pick up on Tuesday, October 18 at Gears Bike Shop in Oakville (547 Trafalgar Road) from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. This is a great way to save time on event night, allowing you to fully enjoy our displays and family friendly activities. This year those activities include magic shows, family photos booth, face painters, balloon animals and more! Full details of early kit pick up are here.
Please don’t forget to bring a food donation for the Oakville Fareshare Food Bank. Our goal is to raise 1,000 pounds of food. You can find a list of most needed items here. Please place your donations in our bright orange “pumpkin” food donation box.
Trek or Treat Oakville is held at the St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre located at 1280 Dundas Street West in Oakville.
Plan to arrive early to take advantage of face painters, a balloon animal artist and free family portraits by our professional photographer (a link to download the high resolution photo will be supplied by email after the race). There are also fantastic Halloween displays to enjoy. Here’s our guide to all the activities for your kids to enjoy this year.
With regret, we must kindly ask all participants to respect others and children at this event. Specifically, we would request that people refrain from emptying our candy bowls into personal grocery bags, purses, backpacks, etc. This is a family-friendly event and we want everyone to have a great time and to be able to enjoy some yummy candy on event night. Unfortunately, this has become a growing problem over the last few years. Our staff will do our best to monitor the situation to ensure sugar highs for all! Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Bib Number and Race Kit Pick Up (Race Night)
Starting at 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on race night teams can pick up their bibs inside the main building at St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre. Your team’s bibs will be inside an envelope, which also contains pins, and is sorted alphabetically by team name (or last name if a team name was not provided). Once you have your bib, we encourage you to please step away from the pick-up table to allow others access to pick up their bibs.
Kids Scavenger Hunt
This year all registered Creepy Mile kids will receive a scavenger hunt card and loot bag (included in your team’s registration packages). On event night, assist your child in locating our three scavenger hunt stations inside, where they’ll receive a stamp on their card and pick a treat or trinket to put in their loot bags.
**IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PARKING**
The closer we get to race time, the tighter the parking gets! Consider carpooling. Please arrive with ample time to park, pick up your bibs, get them pinned on to costumes and get to the start line. Please be patient and follow our parking marshals’ instructions. We encourage you to pick up your race bibs no later than 6:30 p.m., to allow time to pin them on and get to the start line.
Flashlights and Headlamps
Do not be deceived, the race course is dark. It is mandatory that all participants (excluding those in strollers) carry a flashlight or wear a headlamp. Our course markers are only illuminated when a light shines on them. Although a portion of the Creepy Mile has some ambient street lighting, at least half of the mile is DARK. There are no scary displays on the Creepy Mile course.
If you have rented one of the Princeton Tec headlamps – please arrive with enough time to pick up your headlamp at the headlamp table. You will be required to leave one piece of ID in order to receive your headlamp. This is to ensure the return of each headlamp. Thank you for your cooperation on this request.
Please dress for the weather! It can be cool, wet and windy at this time of year. Hats, mitts and warm/weather resistant jackets are recommended.
For those who wish to purchase a commemorative 2016 race shirt on-site, there is a limited selection of men’s, women’s and youth sizes available. Please note that supplies of sizes are limited! The price is $40 for adults and $23 for youth. CASH ONLY.
For those who have pre-purchased race shirts, you can pick them up at our shirt tent. Please bring ID and/or proof of purchase (email receipt).
The Creepy Mile starts at 7 p.m. sharp. A lead rider will guide the first participants on the course. A bicycle paramedic will follow the last walker. The start line is outside in front of the main building, near the start/finish inflatable. Our announcer will direct you.
Pizza, candy, hot chocolate and coffee will be waiting for Creepy Milers with a BIB NUMBER inside the main building at the end of the walk. There are no official times for the Creepy Mile, but the clock will be running so you can check your time as you finish. Creepy Mile kids will be given a ribbon at the finish line.
All of the candy served at Trek or Treat is peanut free. However, race kits do contain peanut products and third party food vendors (including our pizza, hot chocolate and coffee suppliers) cannot guarantee products have not come into contact with nuts or other allergens. Our gluten free goody bags for those who have pre-ordered do contain peanuts. Other food items may also enter the facility that are not peanut/nut free. Please exercise extreme caution if you have an allergic child. This is NOT an allergen-free event!
Strollers are welcome in the Creepy Mile. We encourage those of you with strollers to start nearer to the back, to avoid a bottleneck that sometimes occurs with larger jogging-style strollers. This is a fun, non-competitive event!
There is a candy station located approximately halfway through the Creepy Mile where your little ones can stop for a bite of candy or a rest.
Please be reminded that pets are not permitted on the grounds or in the event.
There are washrooms inside the facility.
We look forward to seeing you at Trek or Treat!
