Friday October 21st is race day and we are so excited to welcome you, your family and friends to the 11th annual Trek or Treat Night Trail Run! This is going to be our biggest year yet and we can’t wait to see you all! In order to make your Trek or Treat experience great, here are some important tips. If you have additional questions not answered here, please check the FAQ page on our website.
The 5K Run/Walk starts at 7:45 p.m. Bib pick-up is available on-site from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Your disposable timing chip is embedded on the back of your bib. After the race this does not need to be returned. Once you have your bib on, please be careful not to walk over the timing mats at the start line…until the actual start of the race.
Please don’t forget to bring a food donation for the Oakville Fare Share Food Bank. Our goal is to raise 1,500 pounds of food. You can find a list ofmost needed items here. Please place your donations in our bright orange “pumpkin” food donation box.
Trek or Treat Oakville is held at the St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre located at 1280 Dundas Street West in Oakville.GET DIRECTIONS
Plan to arrive early to take advantage of face painters, a balloon animal artist, magic shows and free portraits by our professional photographer (available on a first-come, first-served basis). There are also fantastic Halloween displays to enjoy.
Haunters on Course
Stay calm! There will be haunters on the 5K course this year! No one will jump out at you, but keep an eye out for this spooky crew.
Early Kit Pick Up
All 5K racers who registered by the October 13th deadline are eligible to do early kit pick up tomorrow (Tuesday) at Gears Bike Shop in Oakville (547 Trafalgar Road) from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. This is a great way to save time on event night. Full early kit pick up details hereBib Number and Race Kit Pick Up
Starting at 4 p.m. racers can pick up their bibs and race kit inside the main building at St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre. Please pick up your 5K bib by 7 p.m. to ensure that you will have enough time to get your bib on and make your way to the start line.
YOUR CHIP TIME WILL BE EMBEDDED IN YOUR RACE BIB. Please ensure that you have your bib on before you start the race.
Please ensure the following:
a) If you are racing with family members, that each person is wearing the correct bib number.
b) Bib numbers must be worn on the front of your costume or race clothing.
Once you have your bib, we encourage you to please step away from the pick-up table to allow others access to pick up their bibs.
**IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PARKING**
The closer we get to race time, the tighter the parking gets! Please carpool if you can. Please arrive with ample time to park, pick up your bibs, get them pinned on to costumes and get to the start line. Please be patient and follow our parking marshals’ instructions.
Flashlights and Headlamps
Do not be deceived, the race course is dark. It is mandatory that all participants (excluding those in strollers) carry a flashlight or wear a headlamp. Our course markers are only illuminated when a light shines on them.
If you have rented one of our Princeton Tec headlamps – please arrive with enough time to pick up your headlamp at the headlamp table. You will be required to leave one piece of ID in order to receive your headlamp. This is to ensure the return of each headlamp. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please dress for the weather! It can be cool, wet and windy at this time of year. Hats, mitts and warm/weather resistant jackets are recommended.
For those who wish to purchase a shirt on-site, there is a selection of men’s, women’s and youth sizes available. Please note that supplies of sizes are limited! The price is $40 for adults and $23 for youth. Cash only please.
For those of you who pre-purchased a race shirt, please visit the shirt table with your ID or proof of purchase (receipt).
The 5K Run/Walk starts at 7:45 p.m. A lead rider will guide the first runners on the course. A bicycle paramedic will follow the last participant. The start line is in front of the giant inflatable finish line in front of St. Volodymyr.
Pizza, candy, hot chocolate and coffee will be waiting for participants with a BIB NUMBER inside the main building at the end of the run. Awards will take place after the race.
All of the candy served at Trek or Treat is peanut free (with the exception of the gluten free goody bags). However, items inside race kits do contain peanuts, and third party food vendors (including our pizza, hot chocolate and coffee suppliers) cannot guarantee products have not come into contact with nuts or other allergens. Other food items may also enter the facility that are not peanut/nut free. Please exercise extreme caution if you have an allergic child. This is NOT an allergen-free event!
Strollers are welcome in the 5K Run/Walk. We encourage those of you with strollers to start at the back, ahead of the walkers. You will need to be aware of one smaller gate area that may cause a bottle neck with larger jogging strollers near the start of the 5km race.
There is one water station on the course.
Please be reminded that pets are not permitted on the grounds or in the event.
There are washrooms inside the facility.
We must kindly ask all participants to respect others and children at this event. Specifically, we would request that people refrain from emptying our candy bowls into personal grocery bags, purses, backpacks, etc. This is a family-friendly event and we want everyone to have a great time and to be able to enjoy some yummy candy on event night. Unfortunately, this has become a growing problem over the last few years. Our staff will do our best to monitor the situation to ensure sugar highs for all! Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday night!
